The Hunter family have been involved with horses their whole lives. Currently, Jake Hunter is riding professionally and competing in Europe, while Cade Hunter rides at junior and open level nationally. Gail offers coaching at home and through occasional clinics. Gail Hunter has been actively involved in showjumping for 35 years. Her many career highlights have included Australian Junior Showjumping Champion in 1982 riding All Alone, and Australian Senior Showjumping Champion in 1998 riding Yabba Dabba Doo. Having retired from competitive riding in 2008, Gail now concentrates on coaching a number of up and coming junior riders, including her two sons Jake and Cade. Jake Hunter took out the Australian Junior Showjumping Champion title in 2012, riding Midnight Rock – exactly 30 years after his mother won the title. In 2008 at the age of just 12, Jake represented Australia at the FEI Children’s International Jumping Competition Final in Bogota, Columbia. One of the youngest competitors and riding a borrowed horse, Jake placed 9th. In August 2014 Jake represented Australia for the second time, this time at the Youth Olympic Games, again riding a borrowed horse, where he took out the individual bronze medal. Cade Hunter had a successful Junior and Young Rider Showjumping career on Kelstar and Midnight Rock. He is now competing in the senior ranks on the very talented Vasari NZPH, whilst pursuing a career in breaking and pre-training of thoroughbreds for racing.
